Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) is Health Canada-approved and widely used in cosmetic medicine across Canada. It’s classified as a prescription drug and, when administered by a qualified professional, is considered both safe and effective.
At Merrion Medical Aesthetics, we use tiny, precise injections to ensure your comfort and minimise risk. After treatment, you may notice small red spots or slight swelling at the injection sites—this is completely normal and usually fades within a few hours. Mild tenderness or redness can also occur, and while bruising is rare, it’s possible. If a small bruise does appear, it’s typically very discreet and easily covered with makeup.
If you’re prone to bruising, you might consider avoiding omega-3 supplements, vitamin E, and alcohol for a week before your appointment, as these can increase the risk for some patients.
Occasionally, people report a mild headache or slight nausea after treatment. These symptoms are short-lived and typically resolve within a day or two.
As with any medical treatment, rare side effects are possible. We’ll always take the time to review everything with you beforehand and answer any questions you may have. Your safety and peace of mind are our top priorities.
